Emily started writing when she was very young. Emily had always kept a journal, and years later went back to find that some of her words created fine poetry. Emily found she could write good poetry in college, but not at first. After very harsh criticism from a professor, she gave it up. In 2004 she finally felt comfortable with her own works. Emily is now pursuing her 2nd Bachelors degree, a BFA in Theatre, and a minor in Creative Writing. She plans to enter Graduate School in 2008 and earn her MFA in Scene Design and Playwriting.

Smooth Jazz Plays in the Background

we are fully clothed aside from the socks that have been
tossed on the floor. as a caress of your left hand's
middle three fingers glides along my chin my eyes are
locked open. your thumb comes to meet my lips as
my right hand climbs the length of your sweatshirt to
your shoulder to mingle with the hairs on the back of your neck
as your right hand melds my shirt to the narrow center of my back.

your touch is so soft, the way cotton pajama pants
feel on my legs after finishing a hot shower
and a thorough shave. my eyes want to close
but I battle them - I want to see your
reactions to my reactions as I hear and feel
your staggered breath quicken in time with mine.

your left pinky finger holds my belt loop with your
palm on my hip. your grasp is
cool, nowhere near
firm, just soothing - our eyes
have closed, savoring
the caresses
of our past lives
as they entwine
with the present.

we can feel
our separate bodies
undulating unto themselves
and in time
with our staggered breath

my hand
grips the collar
at the back of
your neck
as we gasp

and

come

to

the

end
